I loved this book! The author - - an expert in his field, is also a skillful writer who makes the prose flow nicely for the general reader. But most important, since Professor Goldsworthy is so learned in ancient history, he is able to parse the sources and, with authority, tell us what events and circumstances are accurate, unclear or 'probably accurate'. The chronology tables are useful for reference and the maps are outstanding. This excellent work is comprehensive without being too scholarly or detailed.
