Ryan Walters wrote an excellent account of Apollo 1. He provided information I had not previously known and I have read MANY books about the "space race" era including all of the astronaut autobiographies, the books by Gene Kranz and Christopher Craft (JSC flight directors), and "Calculated Risk," the biography of Gus Grissom, commander of Apollo 1. To provide something of significance that was new took a LOT of research on the part of the author. The first half of the book provides readers with a synopsis of the history of the space program from its earliest days up to Apollo 1. There are several errors in that section, but NONE of those are very serious nor do they have any impact on the second half of the book, the most important part, detailing Apollo 1. (If Amazon would allow for fractional stars I would go with a 4.6 rating.) Highly recommend this one!
